    me

Miss Katy J Ereira BSc (Hons) - but you can call me Katy, or Maccath, or Macca, or Macc... you get the idea. I'm approximately 23 years old and a computer science graduate. I code OOPHP (and occasionally Javascript) for my job as a web developer at Giant Peach Design.

When not working you'll more often than not catch me playing computer games (including World of Warcraft), Geocaching, studying the Japanese language, or tidying the house (I'm particularly anal). Photographs of trains often mysteriously end up in my Flickr stream. I'm not a train spotter *whistles innocently*.

    My Career

I was born a geek. I used to aimlessly tap away at a command prompt when I was three and my primary school reports always highlighted my keen interest in computers. Aged nine I discovered the Tamagotchi which spawned my early interests in Japan and robotics, and by the age of eleven, whilst browsing the internet at the local library, I had decided I wanted to become a web developer and spent much of my time playing with HTML and Javascript, eventually pursuing PHP.

At fifteen I was told by a teacher that I would never go to university to study computer science because I wasn't very good at maths. After getting an A grade in GCSE maths I went on to study A-level maths and a vocational course in information technology and software development. Aged eighteen I was offered a scholarship to an engineering university, but declined it. Instead I attended King's College London from whence I graduated with a 2:1 in computer science.

Shortly after graduating I landed a cushy work from home web developer position for small-at-the-time company dotfive. I was able to work on a wide variety of projects from e-commerce websites and information and document management systems to accounting and bug tracking software. I had a bit of a change of heart after almost two years and moved to an office job for Salisbury based web development and design company Giant Peach.

    Up Close & Personal

I grew up in a small town in Dorset with two parents, a younger brother who enjoys defying physics with a bike, and a much-loved (but now sadly rather old) dog. I moved to London for study and for one year after that due to job prospects. Living costs were high and the recession was taking its toll on finances so I moved to Salisbury a little under a year ago. I live with my best friend, Athanasius, in a huge Victorian end-of-terrace house.

My favourite foods include fried noodles from Wagamama, Italian pasta dishes, salted liquorice, cheese--particularly the blue kind--and those little dishes of chutney, yoghurt and salad they serve with poppadoms when you go to any authentic Indian restaurant. My favourite drink is water. I'll go for carbonated water when out for dinner, but normal tap water works fine for me. Some say I am weird.

I am not much of a TV or movies person, normally only choosing to watch British sitcoms, comedy films, some Asian horror and the occasional quizcom. The only show I religiously watch is Peep Show, and my favourite films are The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Pulp Fiction. I do however have an eclectic taste in music - you can check out my Supermassive Playlist of Everything on Spotify.

If I had to describe myself in three words they would be geeky, opinionated and passionate. You can see what other people think of that, and add your own three words at threewords.me/maccath.
