I've been meaning to craft these gloves ever since I started knitting years ago - I think you've probably heard of them, Fetching by Cheryl Niamath, published in Knitty - Summer 2006. I picked out some of the yarn that has been sitting on my shelf for about as long as I've wanted to make the gloves - I've no idea what it was, exactly, but it's surprisingly soft, off-white and vaguely aran weight.

The pattern itself was very simple, the hardest part being picking up stitches to create the thumb hole. If you've never tried cabling before this would definitely be a good introduction. The gloves are bound off at the fingers using picot edging - a dainty finish. They would have been a very quick knit if I weren't so pre-occupied over the past couple of weeks, and I would happily craft more pairs.

Yes, yes, I know. I actually finished these a while ago but I've been so busy that I haven't had time to post about even the progress I'd made!
So finally - my first pair of knitted socks, Monkey in Indian Rose coloured Crazy Zauberball.

I was very surprised--and pleased!--to find that they came out close to matching, going from various shades of purple down the leg to a bright pinkish red toward the toe. It's a shame you can't really see it in the photo, but they are very close. I didn't use nearly the whole Zauberball - there was plenty left over, enough to make some matching accessories... if I ever get round to it! I am very small, though, and if anything they are still too big. I hope they don't stretch too much in the wash. If they do, they will become very comfy indoors lazy-socks.
After previously debating the methods for sock knitting I opted for DPNs. Partly because I happened to have some in the correct size anyway, but I don't regret my decision. They seem really daunting to use at first and I'm baffled as to why I never managed to poke myself in the eye, but they get easier as you get past the first few rows until they eventually become second nature to use. I wondered if I would find 'normal' knitting hard after spending so long on the socks!
So, I'm writing this entry out quickly just before I head off for my 10 days in Italy - I've been meaning to show this off for quite a while, so without further ado...

The pattern is Monkey by Cookie A, featured on Knitty. The yarn is Crazy Zauberball in Indian Rose.
So, I did finish that rainbow scarf I was working on, and I have just about found the motivation to post a photo in the midst of my rage over the likely result of the AV referendum - a big fat NO. Very, very disappointed.

Again, I used King Cole Mirage in shade #872 with the Branching Out pattern on Knitty by Susan Pierce Lawrence. I am very happy at the outcome, it's a pretty scarf. I managed to 'cover up' some of my mistakes during the blocking process, which also made the lace really stand out.
Oh, and for the record, I did start on a pair of socks - but I forgot to post on Wednesday, so I suppose you will have to wait until next week to see them!
So I still had a whole bunch of the same yarn (King Cole Mirage in shade #872) that I used to make my rainbow mitts so I decided to knit a scarf to go with them. The pattern I chose is a lace pattern, Branching Out by Susan Pierce Lawrence. So far, it doesn't really look like much - all bunched up so you can't see how pretty the lace pattern really is. I had to dangle it over a window to get it to show up in the photo. I can't wait to finish and block it.

Unfortunately, I already made a couple of errors. I don't have the patience to rip it out and start over, though, so I'm just hoping that nobody will notice. I've kinda given the game away by writing that here, haven't I?
I hoped that I might have another WIP to write about today, but I don't quite yet. On Saturday I crafted a 'practice' sock, in preparation for attempting to knit my very first pair of real socks. Then I ordered some sock yarn - Crazy Zauberballs in shades Indian Rose and Riverbed. Well, I can say one thing, they sure are crazy.

I still haven't decided which one to use first, but I'm leaning towards the Indian Rose. Maybe I will have cast on by the end of tonight.
One last thing, I want to give a shout out to Brownberry Yarns who, as well as being reasonably priced and quick to deliver, are also mind readers. Parma Voilets were shipped with the order - my favourite candy!
